VP. House

Impressive in size but modest in appearance, this single-story home blends in with the surrounding trees, shrubs, meadows and polders so perfectly that it becomes almost invisible. This is where the choice of materials plays a very important role: here we looked meticulously for materials and colours from the surrounding landscape.

The eye-catcher is definitely the façade, a 50-metre-long claustra with a nod to mid-century architecture. Throughout the day, the water feature just in front of the façade, the sunlight and the flowing shapes of the claustra create fanciful reflections in the long corridor. The gigantic awnings, long lines, patios and level differences are also a reference to the design style.

A feeling of protection and security is a key theme for every home, even more so here given the openness of the surrounding polders. The house was positioned such that it is perfectly possible to sit sheltered from the sun at any time of the year. Like a snail’s shell, the heart of the home gives you a special courtyard feel in contrast with the expansive surroundings.
